Parsons Challenge #3

The final piece of my Parsons Challenge sequence illustrates me somewhere in between my car and outside—either getting in or getting out. The reason for this ambiguity is to tie the three pictures in a circle—though this could be the last piece of the series, with me leaving my car, it could also be the first piece, interpreted as a picture of me getting into my car. The picture is set in front of my house, because that is where I get into my car to start off every morning, and that is where I come back to and get out of my car at the end of every day.

Parsons Challenge #2

This second piece is much quieter than the first one, and is intended to illustrate the more peaceful, reflective side of driving. If I have had a stressful day and I don’t feel like blasting dance music, I often put on something more mellow. The looser style of this piece is meant to reflect the relaxing, soothing feeling created by the mellow tunes, the soft hum of the engine, and the picturesque image of the sun setting over the ocean is extremely soothing and is perfect for thinking and reflecting to. As illustrated in the art piece, I will sometimes take a short detour and pull over by the side of the road or park my car somewhere along the Pacific Coast Highway and just watch the sunset for a while and mull over some thoughts. This piece is second in the sequence because it takes place during the process of driving, somewhere between getting from point A to point B.

Parsons Challenge #1

After reflecting throughout a few days, I realized one daily activity I often take for granted is driving. Living in southern California, I have to drive literally everywhere and it’s become such a habit that I don’t really actively notice it anymore. I chose to illustrate the concept of driving to music in this digital piece, because music is the first thing that comes on every time I start my car. The dashboard of my car shows the radio station I always have on, and lyrics from songs that have been playing a lot recently are worked into the piece to emphasize that the upbeat music is what’s provoking my dancing reaction, and to make the piece more personal. The steering wheel has been changed into a CD because I play music from CDs too, and because sometimes holding and turning the wheel reminds me of a DJ spinning a record (I promise I’m still a safe driver).
